The Greater Dickson Gas Authority serves Dickson,
Houston, Stewart and the southern portion of Cheatham County in middle Tennessee utilizing
some 623 miles of main line - ranging in size from 1/2 inch to 12 inches diameter pipe
size. This distribution network of predominately 4 inch piping provides gas service
over an area of approximately 131 square miles to 16,965 customers as of February 2009.
Our natural gas comes from oil and gas fields that are located in Louisiana and the
Gulf of Mexico. Gas is transcontinental transported through high pressure lines
(650-800 psi) from the Gulf coastal area to the northeastern sections of our
country. We tap into this high pressure line (Tennessee Gas Pipeline) at
four different city gate stations located within our system.
- Hwy 47 in Dickson, Tn. . .
(tap primarily serves the City of Dickson and areas
around the city).
- Buddy Road in Burns, Tn . . .
(tap primarily serves White Bluff, Burns, and Charlotte
areas)
- Hwy 70 in Kingston Springs, Tn. . .
(tap primarily serves the Kingston Springs/Pegram areas)
- East Piney Road in Dickson, Tn. . .
(tap primarily serves the 12" high pressure line
from Dickson to Cumberland City, Tn.)
It is then distributed and regulated by the "Authority" through 40 regulator
stations at pressures ranging from 20 psig to 450 psig., so as to provide
adequate gas supply and pressure demands to those customers that we serve. Our
natural gas has an average content of 1,040 Btu per cubic foot. Our distribution
pressures range from 25 pounds to 400 pounds per square inch.
