The Propane Division of the Greater Dickson Gas Authority was established
in August of 1992 utilizing our old "standby" propane peak shaving system which
was no longer adequate to meet the growth needs of the system. Over the last
several years, warmer winters has caused the system to not be utilized. With minimum
conversion, the system was converted into a propane distribution system. We felt
this would better utilize our existing idle equipment, and also meet the growth needs for
potential gas customers. Up until that time, when a non acquired "natural
gas" customer's old heating system or water heater expired, the only alternative was
replacement with one of our competitors products or simply revert back to electric.
We feel this transition move into propane has been very successful. The propane
section has grown tremendously into a division unto itself. As of January 2009 we
serve 2,600 customers within a 25-30 mile radius of Dickson which includes portions of
these seven (7) different counties (Dickson, Montgomery, Houston, Humphreys, Hickman,
Williamson, and Cheatham).
